Below is a picture of Bronwynn making friends in Toronto. Notice the blissed out expression on her face as she gets attention! A happy girl indeed! Nancy and Bronynn are a great match!

Below is a photo of Bronwynn enjoying her summer with Nancy. Bron and Nancy spend 3 days a week at this lovely cottage on the lake where Bronwynn enjoys the the water and lots of long walks. We are so pleased that Bronwynn has found a wonderful new forever home and a person that can give her all the love that she deserves! Thank you Nancy!

Bronwynn in the driveway after her morning hike.
She is leaving on Wednesday to go and live with Nancy Sutherland! Nancy lives close to where Tara Dier and Bron's brother Earl walk every day, so hopefully the two long lost siblings will enjoy lots of romps in the park together! Hopefuly we'll get lots of updates to post to the blog...
Border Collie Rescue Ontario has sent me a couple of referrals for potential adopters for Bronwynn. I have received one that is especially promising and if all the references check out, Bronwynn will be off to her new home in Toronto in less than 2 weeks ! She will enjoy companionship, long walks, summers at Georgian Bay, 3 days a week in the country and lots of canine friends, not to mention several feline "brothers and sisters". I will keep you posted! Meanwhile, Bron was at the vet on Friday for treatment of a mild localized mastitis - not serious but she is on antibiotics for the next week. She is feeling great and soon will look wonderful too, as she has lost her old, dull sick coat and is growing a shiny new healthy one! She is eating well - and lots! She has lost a total of 8 lbs and is now on the lean side (all that hiking and racing with Blaze!), so she is getting extra rations which she sure doesn't mind!
Here are some pics taken yesterday. It is looking more like Spring here at Creekside - now we get into mud season..So Bron's lovely white ruff probably will not be that way for long!

Above: Bronwynn and her mother, Pat.
Bronwynn is ready to go and I am actively screening homes for her. She will be placed in a loving home where she will live indoors, enjoy long hikes and ball play, preferably with another active dog as a playmate. If you are interested in this lovely girl, please downloadand complete a puppy quesionnaire (available at http://www.creeksidebordercollies.com/id5.htm , scroll down the page) so I may learn more about you. Bronwynn will be available free to the perfect final home, but a donation to Border Collie Rescue Ontario will be greatly appreciated.
Also, I want to make it clear that while Bronwynn is not my breeding (she is the daughter of my Imp. Pat, but from the litter that Pat had prior to my buying her at age 3) I feel responsible for her and will screen potential homes like I was placing one of my own puppies! References required! Raw fed homes preferred but not required.
I will try and take some updated pics of her today, since it is nice and sunny out!
I just returned home from a week away on business travel and Bronwynn looks great! I took her stitches out this morning and she enjoyed a long hike in the new foot of snow with the rest of the gang. She has lost weight - I can feel ribs now - and is beginning to get her body back. Her eye sty is gone now too.
Bronwynn is really settling in and has warmed up completely to John. Strange men are still a problem though. It takes her some time to trust men. Who knows what her history is there....She is acting quite like a pup, stealing shoes and socks to chew, dragging dog beds out of the crates and is very, very playful. She is very responsive, though and is easily re-directed to chew toys.
She still doesn't understand the routine when cars pass on walks, but she is learning. I am teaching her to sit until released when cars pass and she is improving, but it is not automatic like with my other guys. She has learned not to go to the road when in the front yard, like the other dogs and finally understands the evening potty routine, although she has yet to make a single mess in her crate. She can be left loose during the day and as long as she's had plenty of exercise, doesn't get into any trouble at all.
Pat and Tap both love her..It is so cute to watch them all mouth wrestling, or Pat licking Bronwynn's face. It's almost as if they know they are all related somehow...Probably it's just the sweet nature of the "Pat Family" (what John now calls the three of them, they are so alike!). I have a couple of potential adopters interested in Bron, but want to meet them first. She can't be a couch potato, she has a lot of energy and spunk for a 6.5 year old girl! Probably making up for her missed childhood!
Sorry it's been a while - Bron has been very busy! On Monday she went to see Dr. Anne-Marie Gagnon at the Bureau Veterinaire Holistic in Ayer's Cliff where she got a full workup including bloodwork. The good thing is that her rabies vaccine is not due 'till '08, so instead of doing the annual vaccination - we chose to not vaccinate and Bron will participate in the Dr. Dodds titer clinic that will be held in April (unless of course, she's been adopted!).
Her blood work came back normal, and heartworm negative. Her pancreas is not producing the enzymes that Dr. Gagnon would feel comfortable with, but all within normal range. I am feeding her a low fat diet anyways due to her weight, and I add enzymes to her meals. She is eating raw, and loving it! No problems and no finickiness - she has devoured chicken frames, whole mackeral, liver, heart, tongue, ground beef and lamb and duck with no problems. I just trim the fat off hers and give it to Tap (and no complaints there!) She did have other worms in her stools so was dewormed with a mild de-wormer. After a day of diarrhea, all is well!
She does have a small "sty" on her eye, which bothers her a bit as she is quite squinty and teary in that eye. I am putting drops in 2x per day to see if it clears up. She also has a slight vaginal discharge - not alarming but good thing she is being spayed on March 6..One always worried about pyometra in older intact bitches, especially when they've been bred and whelped so many times.
She weighed in at 41.5 lbs, so she has definately lost weight since eshe's been here, but I think her ideal weight will be around 35-36 lbs. She is a big boned girl, a bit swaybacked from so many litters, but we'll get her body back! Her one OC behavior (turning in circles on her now invisible 3 foot chain) is still there, but we see it less and less - it seems she does it whn anxious and when she doesn't know what to do in a certain situation.
She has been to the groomer and was a star - sweet and gentle and seemed to love the bath - probably the first of her life ! The groomer said she is one of the sweetest and gentle dogs she's ever bathed. She even felol asleep in her cage with the dryer on - she is definitely NOT sound sensitive! Her fear of men is still very apparent - you wonder what kind of history is there....Poor girl. But she is warming up to John (even climbs in his lap!) and let the groomer's husband scratch her ears, but she will have nothing to do with the worker who is building our house, who adores my dogs and they adore him. I think she will probably do best in a home where there are not too many male visitors...I believe she would get used to one, but strange men would always be a problem, I think.
Anyways, she has not had a single accident, even though she is "not housebroken". She has also not been carsick, although that was supposedly an issue too. She is very responsive on walks. She is learning about lying down when cars pass, like the rest of my dogs, and learning not to come to the mail box with me or anywhere else near the road and she is learning so quickly! She is a joy, gets along with all my dogs and has found a special friend in Kap. She gets very excited by the sheep but is called off super easily. She is coming out of her shell (didn't take long!) and is right in the middle of the chaos during ball play, barking and having a blast!
Left: Here is Bron with her squinty right eye. Below is her "pre-bath" shot.

Bronwynn all clean and brushed! There were some bad mats in her tail and feathers - most of which had to be cut :(
So - off to be spayed on Tuesday!
I cannot stress how wonderful and loving this girl is! She will make a lovely companion for an active person, perhaps with another dog, as she is still very playful, even after the life she's had!
Well I am pleased to say that Bronwynn is not in as bad a shape as I had expected. She stinks, has loads of tarter and therefore bad breath, lots of mats in her coat and large teats left over from her last litter...But the commerical breeder actually had her shots done annually and had her hips Xrayed and eyes cleared by CERF. I was told she would be very carsick on the way home and that she would probably make a mess in her crate and in the house..But she was great! She rode quietly home in the car, met the other dogs (since she has had her vaccinations, including kennel cough, I thought it would be ok for her to mingle) came for a walk on leash, accompanied me to the barn at sheep feeding time (and was very excited by the sheep!) and settled right down with the pack after her first raw meat meal (which she gobbled up greedily!). She is super sweet girl - just like her mom, Pat and they really have many of the same mannerisms! Of course all the other dogs were sniffing her head to toe (Kap of course was being his usual rude self, sniffing in all the wrong places!) and she only raised her lip when it really was rude! She is totalally non-confrontational - even when Jess snapped at her (Jess is like, "who is THAT and when is she LEAVING!"). Bronwynn just backed right off.
She is fearful of men, though. She doesn't snap, she would just rather get out of the way. But she did come up to John this morning and cuddled up to him. We have several contractors roaming around today (ongoing house renovations) and she seems unconcerned with the noise and is watching and listening to the goings on from the safety of her Xpen. She also is displaying some OC behavior - she sometimes paces in circles - probably mimicking her day in day out activity on her short chain. I think that will go away when she starts to get enough excercise.
She spent the night in an Xpen and didn't make a mess - even though I did not see her pee or poop at ALL since she arrived home! This morning she really understood the potty routine! She is responsive and comes when called, althoguh she really doesn't know anything else. I took her snowshoeing this morning (off leash) with the whole gang and she stayed right by my side, just like Pat! This dog is going to make a wonderful active companion!
Here is a photo of her last night schmoozing with me. Notice how relaxed she is already, after only about 4 hours in her new surroundings. It is not a good photo - her nose looks a lot bigger than it is!
